nylon 6.6 granules and fiber

 Nylon 6.6 is a type of polyamide which is  made from two monomers each containing 6 carbon atoms, hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid. Its an engineering plastic raw material known for its strength, thermal stability and stiffness.

Its key features are as follows :

  • High tensile strength : Its tightly packed crystalline formation makes the product stiff and provides it with strength to resist deformation.
  • Abrasion and Wear resistance : It exhibits exceptional abrasion resistance and friction resistance properties making it suitable for application in automotive industry.
  • High Melting point : Its melting point is around 265 degree Celsius, higher than Nylon 6, which supports its application in high-temperature environments .
  • Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) : For unreinforced Nylon 6.6 granules,  HDT is up to 95 degree Celsius. However, for glass filled granules have high HDT which is around 250 degree Celsius. 
  • High Moisture Absorption :  The fiber exhibits high water absorption in comparison to Nylon 6 however it may impact its dimension stability and insulation properties.
  • Chemical resistance : It is resistant to hydrocarbons, oils, greases, acids and alkalis except for a few strong ones. 
  • Electrical Insulation : It possesses excellent electrical insulation properties, making it suitable for use in connectors and housings.

 Nylon 6.6, also known as Polyamide 6.6 (PA6.6) is a synthetic fiber that is widely used across the engineering field. It is mainly uses as a replacement for metal in various applications because of it's high strength, durability and temperature stability. 

It's key features are as follows :

 

  • High Modulus : Its highly crystalline structure makes it stiff and gives it a higher level of mechanical strength.
  • High Melting Point : Nylon 6.6 can withstand temperature as high as 260 degree Celsius without losing its strength, making it suitable for its application in the rubber industry.
  • Chemical Resistant : It is resistant to oils, greases, acids and alkalis except for few strong ones.  
  • Good abrasion and Wear Resistance :  Its highly crystalline structure,  gives it excellent resistance to surface wear caused by friction and repeated contact with other materials.
  • High Moisture Absorption : The fiber exhibits high water absorption in comparison to Nylon 6 however it may impact its dimension stability.
